Historical
background review of Burkina Faso
Introduction
Burkina Faso
is a region of Africa that has been endowed with immense wealth. It does not
use its resources. This region has two names, one Upper and the other Burkina
Faso, Burkina means the faithful and Faso refers to the country, meaning the
land of the faithful.
This country
has been plundered a lot by external elements, especially Europe and France,
who have seized its resources. Its independence was merely verbal, the rest was
dominated by France. Burkina Faso is now ruled by Ibrahim Touré, who is writing
a new history here.
Touré took
power through a coup. This was like dictators do. But Touré has developed his
image over time. Very soon he became popular among the common people. He is
considered the most powerful in Africa and he has become a famous leader.
He is
compared to Thomas Sankara, this is through Sankara. Sankara was the most
charismatic leader of Burkina Faso. He fought the tyranny of France vigorously.
Was. They want to make their country self-sufficient. Meanwhile, Sankara's
military coup turned the tide and he was brutally murdered. It happened. Many
people believe that France was behind his murder. But the inquiry was never
properly conducted.
When we even
hear the name of Africa, painful images of poverty, famine, hunger, migration begin
to emerge in our hearts and minds. We think of such a land. Where there is no
place for peace and order. And where an era of daily killings, civil wars and
rebellions will begin. This fantasy is not at all
wrong.
History
of Burkina Faso
The history
of Burkina Faso is divided into two parts. Burkina Faso has been there for
about 14,000 years. Earlier it was a settlement of nomadic tribes. They used to
hunt them and earn their living. Later, they became part of the tribes. They
did farming. Worked like metalworking and over time there was also a system of
trade and governance among themselves. Made
Around 1000
AD, the Mosa Empire arose. Their ancestors were from Ghana. They came from.
They made Ouagadougou their center. Ouagadougou is the capital of present-day
Burkina Faso. The Mosa people were warlike tribes. They had a powerful army and
were unequaled in wealth and prosperity. Thanks to this, they became the leader
of Burkina Faso.
The name of
French West Africa was changed. France occupied the territory based on the
Volta River. It was renamed Upper Volta. Then in 1932, France dissolved Upper
Volta and its lands were divided between Mali, Niger and Ivory Coast. I divided
it. Thus, an attempt was made to eliminate Upper Volta from existence. But
after World War II, the situation changed. France was defeated at the beginning
of the war. Then Britain and the United States were together to protect it.
France was the winner of the world war. It was built but its condition had
deteriorated. It was not there in the condition of having a free hand in its
colonies. When pressure increased, in 1947 it re-established Upper Volta. Upper
Volta remained under French rule until 1960. In those 64 years it has
transformed Upper Volta
The most
revolutionary chapter in Burkina Faso history was this and its mastermind was
Blaise. Compaore. Yes, the same Compaore who won in 1983. He helped Sankara get
into office. I had done it. But after 4 years he lost his leader. He overthrew
the government and made himself president. Compaore became stock one by one. He
began to reverse policies. He would re-privatize national institutions. And he
began to borrow from the World Bank and the IMF. Compaore also worked in
France. He also made friends with the United States. France
He put Compaore
at his head. He is also the commander who killed Sankara. France gave him its
highest honor. Honored by giving. France accepted. He never admitted his role
in the murder. But suspicion always remained because he benefited the most from
Sankara's death. Received from. By the way, Blaise Kampour has been in power
for 27 years. Until. During his reign, there was a lot of corruption and
oppression. But Western countries blindly support him. I did it. Then in 2014,
Blaise Kampour was strongly protested against, and then Kampour fled the
country. After that, the new government ordered an investigation into the
Sankara murder case. Ordered. Then his body was exhumed. Removed. His DNA was
tested and then he was buried there. Sankara's trial against 14 people involved
in the murder began in 2021. The case was decided in 2022. Three people were
released due to lack of evidence. Eight people were sentenced to 3 to 20 years
in prison. The main mastermind Blaise Kampour and two of his accomplices were
sentenced to life in prison. But Kampour's sentence was not carried out. He has
been living in Ivory Coast since 2014.
He has also
been granted citizenship there. And he has no intention of returning to Burkina
Faso. Not there. Although some have criticized Thomas Sankara. But his legacy
lives on. People in many different countries in Africa consider him their role
model. Sankara won the South African elections. He is often remembered
Current
government:
At present,Ibrahim Touré is running the government. He is a self-appointed president and
the way he is getting support, it seems that this country will develop and move
forward very soon. Russia, China and Pakistan can help it move forward.
