US President hints at 'something special' in Middle East talks
US President
Donald Trump has hinted at a major breakthrough in the Middle East crisis,
saying that “something special is happening and everyone is on board for it.”
According to
the AFP news agency, the US president made this statement at the White House
ahead of a meeting with the Israeli prime minister on Monday.
President
Trump wrote in a post on his Twitter social platform that “we have a real
opportunity for greatness in the Middle East. We have brought everyone together
for something special, this is the first time. We will make it happen.”
“I think we
have a deal on Gaza,” President Trump told reporters in Washington on Friday
before the attack.
Speaking to
the United Nations General Assembly on the same day, Israeli Prime Minister
Netanyahu vowed to block a Palestinian state and complete the task of
eliminating Hamas.
The Israeli
prime minister made the speech a few days after Britain, France and other
Western countries announced their recognition of a Palestinian state.
Netanyahu is
scheduled to meet President Trump at the White House on Monday.
Hamas
carried out its worst attack on Israel on October 7, 2023, in which 1,219
people were killed. According to Israeli official figures, most of those killed
were civilians.
Israel calls
it one of the most dangerous days in its country’s history.
During the
attack, Palestinian militants also took 251 people hostage, 47 of whom are
still in Gaza. According to the Israeli military, 25 hostages have been killed.
According to
figures from the Ministry of Health in the Hamas-run territory, more than
65,549 Palestinians have been killed in Gaza as a result of the Israeli
aggression, most of them civilians.
The United
Nations considers these figures reliable.
