Bollywood mourns: Legendary actor Dharmendra passes away at the age of 89
Mumbai:
Bollywood's senior actor and legendary hero Dharmendra passed away at the age
of 89 after a long illness.
According to
India Today, the actor's team confirmed his death on Tuesday morning, November
11. Dharmendra was admitted to Mumbai's Breach Candy Hospital yesterday, where
he was on a ventilator.
According to
Indian media, Dharmendra was also admitted to the hospital last week due to
breathing difficulties. He also underwent eye surgery in April this year.
According to
reports, Dharmendra acted in his last film 'Akis', which is scheduled to
release on December 25.
Dharmendra
started his career in 1960 with the film ‘Dil Bhi Tera Hum Bhi Tera’ and in his
six-decade journey, he gave Bollywood memorable films like ‘Sholay’, ‘Yaadun Ki
Baaraat’, ‘Mera Gaon Mera Desh’, ‘Phul Aur Pathar’.
The
Government of India awarded him the Padma Bhushan award in 2012.
Born as
Dharmendra Kewal Krishna Deol in Ludhiana, Punjab, the actor married Prakash
Kaur at the age of 19, and later got married to actress Hema Malini.
Despite his
advancing age, Dharmendra remained active on social media. He was often seen
giving advice on farming, healthy lifestyle, and positive thinking in his
videos.
