Shooting near the White House, National Guardswoman Sa rah Beckstrom dies

One of the two National Guardsmen wounded in the Washington attack, Sarah Beckstrom, has died from her injuries, while the other officer is “fighting for her life.”

According to the AFP news agency, President Trump confirmed the death, saying that Sarah Beckstrom was “a respectable, young and wonderful person.”

President Trump said that he learned of Sarah Beckstrom’s death shortly before addressing US troops via video call on Thanksgiving.

In his address to the troops, President Trump said that the second National Guardsman was “fighting for his life and is in critical condition.”

It should be noted that on Wednesday, an Afghan-born citizen shot and wounded two National Guardsmen near the White House in the US capital, Washington, DC.

Investigators have identified the attacker as 29-year-old Rahmanullah Lucknowal, a US citizen who was working with the US military in Afghanistan.

In response to the incident, the Trump administration on Friday announced a review of the immigration status of permanent residents or green card holders from 18 other countries, including Afghanistan.

US Citizenship and Immigration Services Director Joseph Adlow wrote on the social media platform X that countries about which the US has concerns “have been directed to conduct a full and rigorous review of the green card of every person.”

A spokeswoman for the US Citizenship and Immigration Services told AFP that these include all the countries that President Trump had identified as a cause for concern in his order.

The order banned citizens of 12 countries, including Afghanistan, from entering the United States.

The other 11 countries facing travel bans include Myanmar, Chad, Congo, Equatorial Guinea, Eritrea, Haiti, Iran, Libya, Somalia, Sudan and Yemen.

President Trump also imposed a partial travel ban on citizens of seven other countries: Burundi, Cuba, Laos, Sierra Leone, Togo, Turkmenistan and Venezuela. Citizens from these countries were allowed to enter on temporary work visas.

Rahmanullah Lucknow, who was involved in the attack on the National Guard on Wednesday, came to the United States in 2021 under ‘Operation Allies Welcome’. This was a program through which the United States resettled Afghan citizens who had assisted American forces during the Afghan war and who were facing the threat of reprisals from the Taliban.
