Turkey issues arrest warrants for Israeli officials including Netanyahu over Gaza genocide
ISTANBUL: Turkey has issued arrest warrants for 37
Israeli officials, including Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and the Defense
Minister, for committing genocide and crimes against humanity in Gaza.
According to
Al Jazeera, the Istanbul Chief Prosecutor’s Office has issued arrest warrants
for 37 officials, including Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Defense
Minister Israel Katz, and National Security Minister Itmar Ben-Governor.
A statement
issued by the Istanbul Prosecutor’s Office said that the individuals in question
have committed crimes against humanity and committed genocide in Gaza.
The
statement said that the Israeli army has been systematically bombing innocent
civilians and infrastructure in Gaza since October 2023, during which children,
including 6-year-old Hind Rajab, were martyred, and medical facilities were
also bombed.
The Turkish
prosecutor cited Israel’s aggression on the Global Resistance Flotilla, which
was the largest aid delivery mission to the Gaza Strip.
Turkey has
been among the leading countries to speak out against Israel's brutal actions
in Gaza, and has even suspended its diplomatic relations and trade with Israel
over the Gaza war.
The arrest
warrants for Netanyahu and other Israeli officials issued by the Istanbul
prosecutor come a year after the International Court of Justice issued arrest
warrants for Netanyahu and former Israeli Defense Minister Yves Gallant on
charges of war
